Pakistan’s women’s national football team is set to take a significant step forward as it prepares to feature in the FIFA Series in Ivory Coast marking the first time the senior side will compete in an event organized by the global governing body FIFA.
The team will leave for Ivory Coast on Monday, with its campaign beginning against Turks and Caicos Islands on April 9. Pakistan will then face Mauritania on April 12, before meeting the host nation Ivory Coast on April 16 in the final group stage match.
Head coach Adeel Rizki will guide the squad as it looks to gain valuable international experience and test itself against diverse opposition.
Forward Nadia Khan highlighted the importance of the opportunity and expressed appreciation for Mohsen Gilani, president of the Pakistan Football Federation for making participation possible. She noted that competing at this level is a major step for the development of the team.
Goalkeeper Zeeyana Jivraj described the selection as a milestone moment adding that extended preparation time has allowed the squad to build stronger coordination and understanding ahead of the tournament.
Midfielder Sanah Mehdi encouraged fans to support the team throughout the competition emphasizing that public backing plays a key role in motivating players.
The training camp in Lahore concludes on Sunday before the team departs for the tournament.
The squad features goalkeepers Zeeyana Jivraj, Nisha Ashraf and Arzoo Hazara; defenders Isra Khan, Anaya Ahmad, Anmol Hira, Kayla Siddiqui, Karissa Jivraj, Alia Sadiq, Maria Khan and Nizalia Siddiqi; midfielders Suha Hirani, Rameen Fareed, Layla Banaras, Sanah Mehdi and Zehmena Malik; and forwards Mariam Mahmood, Aqsa Mushtaq, Aiman Altaf, Nadia Khan, Maryam Zehri and Azwa Chaudhry.
