Met Gala 2027 will center on controversial British designer John Galliano, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced. The accompanying exhibition, “John Galliano: Horizons,” will explore the full scope of his career and influence on fashion.
The exhibition will feature garments, sketches and archival material spanning Galliano’s work from his 1984 graduation collection to his tenures at Givenchy, Christian Dior and Maison Margiela.
It will also confront the darker chapters of his life, including substance abuse struggles and incidents of racist and antisemitic remarks in 2010–2011 that led to his dismissal from Dior.
The exhibition will be divided into three sections “Bearings,” “Horizons” and “Atlas of Transformation” covering his career timeline, creative inspirations and design process.
Curator Andrew Bolton said the show will examine both Galliano’s artistic impact and how his actions have reshaped public understanding of his work. Meanwhile, Anna Wintour called him “a great designer” whose career extends beyond a single controversy.
The exhibition will run from May 9, 2027 to January 9, 2028 at the Met in New York.
