Pakistan will host the long-delayed 14th South Asian Games from March 23 to 31, 2027 with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar directing officials to establish subcommittees to oversee financing, infrastructure, athlete preparation and logistical arrangements.
The regional multi-sport event, which was originally scheduled for 2021 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and faced another delay in 2026.
The Games are expected to bring together athletes from eight South Asian countries, providing Pakistan with an opportunity to showcase its sporting talent and capacity to host a major regional competition.
Officials said preparations will focus on upgrading infrastructure, ensuring adequate funding, preparing athletes and coordinating logistical arrangements ahead of the event.
The government also described the Games as an opportunity to promote regional peace, cooperation and sporting ties among South Asian countries.
The 14th edition will feature athletes competing across a range of sports, including athletics and other regional multi-sport disciplines with preparations being coordinated among relevant authorities and sporting bodies.
