Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during the ODI tri-series match against England in Lahore on Sunday.
According to the ICC, Rauf breached Level 1 of the code after disputing an on-field decision over a wide delivery in the 46th over, arguing with England all-rounder Will Jacks and raising his bat in frustration despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula. The offence fell under Article 2.20, which covers conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
The incident marked Rauf’s third offence within 24 months, taking his total to five demerit points. Under ICC rules, four or more points within that period convert into suspension points, potentially resulting in a ban. Rauf accepted the charge and penalty without a formal hearing.Despite the incident, Rauf played a key role in Pakistan’s dramatic one-wicket victory, scoring seven runs and sharing an 89-run partnership with Shadab Khan, whose century helped the hosts chase England’s target of 243. England were also fined 15 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate. Pakistan and Sri Lanka will meet in Saturday’s tri-series final in Lahore.
