Basant Dominates World Headlines — From London to New York

By Moanir Abi Hadi
For years, Pakistan mostly appeared in international headlines for hard realities like terrorism, floods, economic crisis, smog, environmental challenges and political chaos. The global image often revolved around instability and struggle, leaving little space for the country’s cultural depth and social activities.
The revival of Basant has presented another picture of Pakistan full of colour, music, dance and cuisines rooted in centuries old traditions. Rooftops in Lahore turned into stages of joy where men, women and children laughed, shouted with excitement and flew kites under a sky painted with bright colours. Elderly citizens sat nostalgically remembering past springs and cherishing the return of a long-missed tradition. Streets echoed with drums, songs and festivity giving the impression of a nation rediscovering its cheerful soul.
What made this celebration even more significant was the participation of the international community. Diplomats, ambassadors and high commissioners joined locals on rooftops, danced, enjoyed the atmosphere and became living participants of the cultural moment. Alongside the cultural revival, the festival also stimulated economic activity from food stalls to local crafts proving that heritage can also drive prosperity.
In essence, Basant projected a soft and hopeful image of Pakistan to the world. It reminded global audiences that beyond crises lies a country rich in culture, inclusivity and life. This colourful spring festival revealed what many headlines overlook a peace-loving Pakistan whose true strength lies in its traditions, its people and its enduring spirit of celebration.
