A weeks-old Gen Z protest group in India has managed to force Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to back down something opposition parties had failed to do for years. The protests began after a major university entrance exam leak which many students said ruined their chances of a fair future.
Tens of thousands of young people gathered in New Delhi, led by a satirical group called the “Cockroach Janta Party.” Their main demand was accountability, especially from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who later resigned. This marked a rare setback for the government.
The movement quickly grew through social media with protesters sharing videos, memes and updates online. It turned a single issue into a nationwide discussion about unemployment, lack of opportunities and frustration among young people.
