Pakistan Pushes Skills Agenda as UN Agencies and Diplomats Back Workforce Development

Diplomats and senior representatives of multiple United Nations agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan to develop a skilled workforce aligned with global labour market needs.
The pledge was made at a high-level roundtable titled “TVET: Strengthening International Cooperation for Skills Development in Pakistan”, held at the headquarters of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).
The meeting brought together representatives from 16 countries along with officials from key UN bodies including the International Labour Organization, UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration.
Diplomatic representatives from Germany and the United States emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships as a foundation for sustainable economic growth and skills development. The European Union also reiterated its continued support for Pakistan’s vocational training initiatives.
During the discussions, the ambassador of Mauritius highlighted potential areas of mutual learning suggesting cooperation in tourism training and construction sector expertise exchange between the two countries.
NAVTTC Chairperson Gulmina Bilal Ahmad said the initiative reflects a shared global commitment to equipping young people with modern, market-relevant skills. She added that international partnerships are helping create new employment opportunities, encourage innovation and support long-term economic growth in Pakistan.
