PCB fines Naseem Shah Rs.20 million over social media breach

Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a Rs.20 million fine on Naseem Shah for violating multiple clauses of his central contract, following a controversy triggered by a social media post.
The issue began when a comment from Naseem’s account appeared to criticise Maryam Nawaz, who was attending a Pakistan Super League match at Gaddafi Stadium as chief guest. The post questioned her protocol, comparing it to that of royalty. It was deleted within minutes and replaced with a statement claiming the account had been hacked.
The PCB subsequently issued a show-cause notice, citing breaches of its code of conduct and media policy. After reviewing Naseem’s written response and holding a personal hearing, a three-member disciplinary committee concluded that despite his unconditional apology, he had committed violations related to inappropriate public commentary.
As part of the decision, the board not only fined him but also noted that his social media adviser had been terminated and would be blacklisted from working with any PCB-affiliated players. The PCB reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism, contractual discipline, and the integrity of the game.
In a later statement, Naseem said the post was made by his management team and did not reflect his personal views. He accepted full responsibility for his platform, apologized for the incident and assured that corrective measures had been taken to prevent such issues in the future.
