Prime Video has renewed Reacher for a sixth season, extending Alan Ritchson’s run as Jack Reacher even before the fifth season of the action series has premiered.
The renewal comes as the Amazon production continues to build a large international audience and expand the television universe based on Lee Child’s bestselling novels. Season 5 is currently in production, while details about the newly announced sixth season remain under wraps.
Amazon says Reacher has now reached 200 million viewers worldwide across its first four seasons. The company also reported that Season 4 attracted 66 million viewers globally during its first 28 days after its August 12 launch.
The eight-episode fourth season concluded on September 16 and has been described by Amazon as one of the five most-viewed seasons of an Amazon original series on Prime Video.
Alan Ritchson Continues as Jack Reacher
Ritchson has played Jack Reacher since the series premiered, bringing the former military investigator from Child’s novels to the streaming screen.
The character is known for moving from place to place without a permanent home, often becoming involved in investigations that expose criminal networks, corruption and violence. Each story places Reacher in a new environment while retaining the character’s investigative skills and military background.
The fourth season was based on Child’s novel Gone Tomorrow. The story begins with Reacher encountering a stranger during a subway journey, setting off a chain of events that draws him into a dangerous investigation.
The television adaptation has continued to use individual novels as the foundation for its seasons, allowing the series to explore different periods and locations in Reacher’s fictional life.
Season 5 Is Already in Production
While Season 6 has now been confirmed, the immediate focus for the production remains the fifth season.
Filming for Season 5 is underway in Toronto, with Ritchson returning in the title role. The season will be based on Child’s novel Make Me, which was originally published in 2015.
In the book, Reacher arrives in a small town in Oklahoma after receiving a mysterious message and becomes involved in a case involving a missing woman, a secretive community and a potentially dangerous conspiracy.
The television adaptation will bring that story to Prime Video, although the production has not yet announced how closely the season will follow the original novel or whether it will introduce significant changes for television.
Prime Video has also not announced a premiere date for Season 5.
A Growing Reacher Universe
The sixth-season renewal arrives as Prime Video develops more stories around the franchise.
The streaming service recently launched Neagley, a spinoff centred on Frances Neagley, a character from Child’s novels who has also appeared in the main Reacher series.
Maria Sten plays Neagley, who served alongside Reacher in the military and has developed a close professional relationship with him. The spinoff gives the character a separate storyline while remaining connected to the wider Reacher universe.
The introduction of Neagley means the franchise now extends beyond the central series, giving Prime Video additional opportunities to adapt characters and stories connected to Child’s books.
The main series and the spinoff are produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios.
Nick Santora Leads the Series
Nick Santora serves as writer and showrunner of Reacher and is also an executive producer.
Child and Ritchson are among the series’ executive producers, alongside Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, Lisa Kussner, Sam Hill, Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen.
The creative team has continued adapting Child’s novels for television while maintaining Reacher as the central figure throughout the series.
Ritchson’s involvement as both star and executive producer has also made him a key part of the franchise’s ongoing development.
No Story or Release Date Yet for Season 6
Although Prime Video has confirmed that Reacher will return for a sixth season, the streaming service has not disclosed which Lee Child novel will serve as its source material.
There is also no announced release date for Season 6.
That leaves Season 5 as the next major milestone for the franchise. With production already underway, Prime Video is expected to reveal further details about the cast, storyline and premiere plans as work progresses.
The renewal also means viewers can expect Ritchson to remain associated with the role beyond the upcoming fifth season.
For Prime Video, the decision extends a franchise that has continued to attract audiences across multiple seasons while creating room for additional stories through its expanding television universe.
