Silkworm produces silk from liquid proteins (fibroin and sericin) made in its silk glands. When released through its mouth and exposed to air, the liquid instantly solidifies into a thread used to build a cocoon up to 900–1500 meters long, inside which it undergoes metamorphosis into a moth.
