A honeybee can sting when it feels danger. Many people do not know one thing. After stinging a person, the honeybee usually dies. This happens because of its stinger.
The stinger gets stuck:
A honeybee’s stinger has tiny hooks. These hooks are very small but very strong. When the bee stings human skin, the stinger gets stuck inside.
The bee tries to fly away. The stinger does not come out. Part of the bee’s body tears away. The bee gets badly hurt and soon dies.
The sting keeps working:
The stinger stays in the skin. It keeps putting venom into the body for some time. That is why a bee sting hurts even after the bee flies away.
Not all bees die:
Only worker honeybees die after stinging people. Wasps and bumblebees have smooth stingers. They can sting many times and stay alive.
The bee protects its home:
Bees live together in a hive. There are thousands of bees in one home. Worker bees protect the hive and the queen.
When a bee stings, it is saving its family. It gives its life to protect the hive.
A lesson from nature:
A honeybee does not want to sting you. It stings only when it feels danger. Its sting is its last defense.
