Pakistani actor Imran Abbas has reiterated the importance of the Indus Waters Treaty, emphasizing that international agreements must be respected and cannot be abandoned without valid justification.
Speaking exclusively to Pakistan TV Digital on the sidelines of a seminar on the Indus Waters Treaty in Islamabad, the actor said, “No country can break an agreement without reason” highlighting the treaty’s significance in maintaining regional water stability.
The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 between Pakistan and India under the mediation of the World Bank, governs the distribution and use of river waters originating from the Indus Basin system. It has long been considered one of the most durable water-sharing agreements in the world, despite ongoing political tensions between the two countries.
Imran Abbas’s remarks come amid renewed public debate over international water rights, environmental concerns and cross-border resource management in South Asia.
