Director Christopher Nolan’s latest film The Odyssey has generated $264.1 million in worldwide ticket sales, marking a major box office success, according to studio figures.
The film earned $124.5 million in the United States and Canada alone, making it Nolan’s biggest global opening to date without adjusting for inflation. It also ranks as his third-highest domestic opening, behind The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
Based on the ancient Greek epic by Homer, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as the hero Odysseus and follows his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The film is Nolan’s first release since the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer (2023).
With a production budget of around $250 million, the film received strong audience reactions, including an “A” CinemaScore and a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Demand for tickets was exceptionally high with IMAX theaters reporting sold-out screenings and adding overnight showtimes to accommodate viewers.
