Ryan Gosling is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2028 as the iconic antihero Ghost Rider, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.
The announcement was made by Kevin Feige during a live panel. After teasing fans about long-kept secrets, the reveal turned dramatic as the stage went dark and “Ghost Rider” appeared on screen before Gosling himself walked out to loud cheers.
Gosling shared that he has wanted to play the character for a long time and expressed excitement about finally taking on the role. He also pointed to Shawn Levy his collaborator on Starfighter as the ideal director for the project.
The character of Ghost Rider has a long history in Marvel Comics. Originally introduced in 1967 as a Western-style figure, the more famous version appeared in 1972 as Johnny Blaze a stunt motorcyclist who makes a deal with the devil and transforms into a flaming-skulled vigilante at night.
The role has previously been portrayed on screen by Nicolas Cage in films released in 2007 and 2011.
