Samsung Heavy Industries is developing floating data centers that could use seawater for cooling as AI computing demand grows.
The offshore facilities could help overcome major challenges facing land-based data centers, including limited land, power shortages and heat management.
Samsung has received approval for a 50 MW floating data center design and is developing a larger 200 MW concept with international partners.
The technology remains under development but could offer a new way to deploy large-scale AI infrastructure offshore while reducing dependence on land-based cooling systems.
