Trump Accuses Iran of Violating Hormuz Terms as Ceasefire Strains

Tensions between the United States and Iran have resurfaced after President Donald Trump accused Tehran of failing to uphold key terms of the recently agreed two-week ceasefire.
In a series of social media posts, Trump criticized Iran for what he described as a “very poor job” of allowing oil shipments to pass through the Strait of Hormuz a vital global energy corridor connecting the Gulf to the Indian Ocean.
The ceasefire, announced earlier this week, included an understanding that the strait would reopen to normal traffic. However, maritime data indicates that only a limited number of vessels have passed through since the agreement took effect raising concerns about disruptions to global oil supply chains.
Trump also issued a warning against reports that Iran may impose tolls on ships using the waterway. “That is not the agreement we have,” he said, signaling frustration over what Washington views as a breach of terms.
Despite the sharp rhetoric, the US administration has maintained cautious optimism about the broader diplomatic process. In earlier remarks, Trump suggested that Iran’s leadership had shown a more “reasonable” approach in private discussions, even as he warned that failure to reach a long-term deal could carry serious consequences.
Diplomatic efforts are continuing with Vice President JD Vance expected to hold talks with Iranian representatives in Pakistan. Senior officials, including envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner are also set to participate in discussions aimed at extending the ceasefire into a more durable agreement.
Meanwhile, regional tensions remain elevated. Israel has reportedly scaled back operations in Lebanon following heavy strikes earlier this week, though the situation continues to test the fragile truce. Talks between Israeli and Lebanese officials are expected to take place in Washington in the coming days.
The developments underscore the uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire, which, despite offering a temporary pause in hostilities, remains vulnerable to conflicting interpretations and ongoing regional pressures.
