A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer is reportedly facing the death penalty in Dubai after being charged with the premeditated murder of her boyfriend according to international media reports.
Brooke George, a resident of Kent, England was arrested on June 22 following an incident in which she allegedly stabbed her partner during a domestic dispute. However, George claims she acted in self-defence stating that she feared for her life during the altercation.
According to the advocacy group Detained in Dubai, the influencer’s partner had allegedly become abusive, physically assaulting her withholding her passport and attacking her inside their apartment. In response, George reportedly used a kitchen knife to defend herself.
She has since been charged with premeditated murder under United Arab Emirates law, a crime that could carry the death penalty if she is found guilty.
George’s family has expressed deep concern over her situation. Her mother stated that her daughter appeared terrified and injured following the incident reinforcing claims that she may have been attempting to escape a dangerous situation.
Human rights advocates have also raised concerns about her treatment in custody alleging that she was denied access to embassy officials, questioned without legal representation and subjected to a strip search.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has confirmed it is providing support to the detained woman and remains in contact with local authorities as the case unfolds.
The case has drawn international attention, highlighting concerns about legal protections, due process and the treatment of foreign nationals facing serious charges abroad.
